Head Start Teacher Job Description
Title: Head Start Teacher
Responsible To: Principal and Head Start Director
Supervises: Teacher Assistant
Summary: Assists in overseeing and directing the planning, organizing, and implementing of educational services for children.
Terms of Employment: 9 months
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood or related field preferred
- All requirements based on Head Start standards and Louisiana’s Licensing Regulations Bulletin 137
- Ability to lift students if needed to assist them in daily tasks.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Training and Certification in the following: Pediatric First Aid and CPR, student transportation, child abuse and neglect, health and safety, in-charge training, state ethics, and universal precautions.
- Actively supervising and monitoring students in care.
- Utilizing the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) in everyday lessons and conversations with students and to the extent that measures at least at the national median throughout formal and informal observations.
- Supervising teacher assistant and collaborating with them on class activities.
- Actively participating in monthly collaboration (staffing meetings), attending professional development activities, and in Head Start sponsored webinars.
- Actively participating in family engagement activities such as parent orientations, parent committee meetings, home visits, and parent conferences.
- Following communication protocol with school administration, school office, Head Start Main Office, and Head Start Coordinator. Communicating and forming relationships with Head Start families.
- Accurately assessing students on district and state approved assessments and submitting results and certifying as being inter-rater reliable on these assessments. In addition, completing daily anecdotal notes with teacher assistant and submitting information for student portfolios.
- Planning lessons and submitting lesson plans weekly.
- Posting menus, lesson plans and other pertinent information on wall.
- Updating classroom with current student work and updating centers.
- Assisting the Head Start families and staff in developing school readiness updates.
- Assisting the Head Start staff in the annual self-assessment process.
- Assisting family advocates with the annual health fair.
- Completing employee physical every three years via personal physician.
- Assisting with student attendance and follow-up parent excuses as needed.
- Completing a self-evaluation and completing professional growth plan and accomplishing the goals annually.
- Completing all other duties as assigned.
