The primary role is to improve the quality of instruction in schools.

 

Certified teacher with classroom experience and experience with tracking data.  Willing to present on Professional Development topics as determined by the school and district leadership teams.  Experience with leading peer teachers with strong communication skills.  Knowledgeable of the Compass Rubric to conduct teacher observations.

Teacher Mentoring

Classroom observations

Curriculum guidance

Work with teachers to create rigorous SLTs and Professional Growth Plans

Assist teachers with intensive assistance plans

data study to determine strengths and weaknesses with in classrooms, schools and district

Research and advise on curriculum strategies

Attending and redelivery of Professional Development

Position Title:                            Professional Development Coach

Terms of Employment:              10 months

Reports to:                                Director of Accountability and Technology Services

 

Qualifications:

  •  Certified Bachelor's Degree in Elementary or Secondary Education as required by LA Slate Bulletin 746 and those required by the Pointe Coupee Parish School Board
  • Valid Louisiana Teacher's certificate in Elem. or Secondary Education (Master Degree Preferred)
  • At least 5 years of teaching experience
  • Personal Professional development and presentation of staff development at local, state and/or national level
  • Knowledge of and experience with the Louisiana COMPASS system
  • Or equivalent professional development in Instructional strategies grounded in scientifically-based research (math & technology preferred)
  • Experience and demonstrated excellence in presenting professional development to teachers
  • Experience in leadership role working with other teachers (leading faculty study group, PLCs, working a school improvement team, etc.
  • Evidence of effectiveness in communication
  • Supporting excellence in teaching communication and professional development

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of a Professional Development Coach is to improve the quality of instruction at assigned schools

The Professional Development Coach will:

  • Meet with Director of Accountability and Technology Services and cooperatively write a Professional Growth Plan and a Plan for improvement as evidenced by a copy on file in the Central Office and work with district instructional administrators, principals, and teachers in developing instructional plans that are consistent with the school improvement plans.
  • Mentor Participating Teachers- work alongside teachers in the classroom modeling lessons and providing follow-up and one-on-one assistance required to implement and sustain standards and learning strategies with integration of technology. Must spend time working directly with teachers to effect classroom instruction.
  • Design instructional lessons that meet the goals and objectives defined by the Louisiana Curriculum Standanls.
  • Actively participate and assist in planning District Professional Development, and organize, promote, and support Whole Faculty Groups or PLC meetings that support implementation of District/School Plans
  • Assist teachers in selecting and using effective teaching strategies to achieve the goals as stated in the School Improvement Plan; on occasion, provide whole group instruction on appropriate content knowledge, instructional, and assessment strategies for groups of faculty members.
  • Support District implementation of Curriculum and Instructional strategies reflected in District and School Professional Development Goals. Address district and school issues in reform (curriculum, instruction, and assessment).
  • Design, plan, and conduct appropriate district-wide and school wide workshops.

 

 

 

  • Assist teachers/principals in disaggregating student data to diagnose specific

Strengths and weaknesses. Provide assessment and evaluation information by collecting "artifacts" (analysis of student test scores, student work, as well as other products) and conducting classroom observations to provide information to drive instruction and program direction.

  • Visit classrooms to conduct informal classroom observations, model effective district approved instructional strategies, and coach classroom teachers as they apply strategies.
  • Collaborate with other Professional Development Coaches. Attend District Professional Development Coaches Meetings and participate in "Colleague Visits" to other schools and school districts to explore and in service teachers on current district approved research and effective classroom-instruction to improve student achievement.
  • Organize and maintain a Professional Development binder that allows school, district, state, and federal monitors to determine the level of implementation of District and School Professional Development and the School Improvement Efforts at each school. Submit Weekly Planner Forms and Summary Implementation Logs reflecting upon the activities planned/accomplished each week.
  • Assist district and schools in selection, production, and use of approved instructional materials and maintain a healthy, viable program that is demonstrably valuable to teaching and learning.
  • Assist the district and school principals in implementing District/School Professional Development Plans.
  • Dress and act professionally.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or requested by the Superintendent, Director of Accountability and Technology Services, Chief Academic Officer and Director of Human Capital
