Description

This is an open application for all custodian positions at all schools.  

 

 Position Title:                    Custodian

Terms of

Employment:                   Twelve (12) Months

Reports To:                      Principal

Job Goal:                           To fulfill the requirements necessary in the daily

operation of a school building in an efficient and effective manner as assigned by the principal.

 

Occupational

Characteristics:                      Strength: Exert force of 20-50 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly.

Other Physical Demands: Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, fingering, talking, hearing, near acuity (under 20 inches).

Environmental Conditions: Noise Intensity Level - Moderate

Custodian obligations

1.  Have knowledge of the following:

  1. a.  The principles of heating, ventilating, sanitation, and care of school buildings.
  2. b.              The best tools, materials, cleaning agents, and methods to use in various phases ofcustodial work.
  3. c.               The correct use of mechanical equipment of school buildings.

2.   Have skill in using proper tools, materials, cleaning agents, and methods of procedure for the different kinds

of custodial jobs under various conditions.

  1. Possess attitudes that will lead to serious, wholehearted, and unselfish attention to the duties of custodial service and those which make for harmonious cooperation with pupils and with the administrative, educational, and custodial forces.
  2.  Have ideas of what constitutes good custodial service and of the importance of the service to both the educational work of the school and the protection of the school property.
  3.  Have an appreciation of beauty, harmony and cleanliness in and about school grounds.

 

 

Maintenance and Responsibilities

1.                                      Make minor repairs to locks, hinges, door closures, window closures, window glass, etc., when either of the

aforementioned items create a hazardous, unsafe condition, otherwise report same and wait for assistance from the maintenance department.

2.                                      Repair and adjust faulty window shades and replace light bulbs and report fuse, fuse panel, and multi breaker problems to principal.

3.                                      Make minor repairs to pupils' and teachers' lockers, desks, and teachers' desks.

4.                                      Keep all fire extinguishers securely in place and periodically check same for validness.

5.                                      Maintain towel racks, soap dispensers, and tissue racks. If any of the above are damaged or lost, replacement shall be made by the maintenance department.

6.                                      Assist maintenance personnel (when time permits) in repairs to heating and plumbing equipment.

7.                                      Make minor repairs to playground equipment.

8.                                      Repair or replace pencil sharpeners as needed.

9.                                      Observe leak problems and report to principal for attention by maintenance department.

10.                               Report any major inadequacies or malfunctioning of physical properties to principal.

 

 

 

 

Operational Responsibilities

 

  1. 1.      Daily Operations
    1. a.       Displaying the flag as weather permits.
    2. b.      Cleaning and dusting all classroom areas, administrative areas, stairway, and corridor areas.
    3. c.       Cleaning and servicing all restroom areas.
    4. d.      Cleaning all chalkboards and erasers.
    5. e.       Care of all entrances, walks, and drives as weather permits and inspection and care of playground equipment.
    6. f.       Disposal of trash, waste, ashes, etc.
    7. g.       Cleaning and care of custodial rooms, supplies, etc.
    8. h.      Care and services of heating plant area.
    9. i.        Cleaning of drinking fountains.
    10. j.        Assist with lunchroom needs and requirements as determined by principal when assigned.
    11. k.      Carry a two way portable radio provided by the district, as required by immediate supervisor.

 

  1. 2.      Weekly Operations
    1. a.       Cleaning or dusting of doors and door glasses.
    2. b.      “Spot Cleaning” of soiled floor and wall area.
    3. c.       Cleaning of restroom walls, doors, and partitions.
    4. d.    Polishing of floor areas as assigned or scheduled.
    5. e.    Cleaning inside glass as assigned or scheduled.
    6. f.       Cleaning of furniture as assigned or scheduled.

 

  1. 3.      Periodic Operations
    1. a.    Clean, finish and polish floor areas.
    2. b.      Clean window glass inside and outside.
    3. c.       Clean or dust window shades.
    4. d.      Clean ceiling, walls, bulletin boards, and trim.
    5. e.       Clean lighting and heating fixtures.
    6. f.       Care of the yard and ground area (the major part of the campus is cut by the maintenance department on a rotating basis).
    7. g.       Inspection, cleaning and care of storage areas.
    8. h.      Painting (interior and/or exterior areas of campus).
